Scope
Complete gut to the studs, load-bearing walls removed and reframed, spray foam throughout, new upstairs washroom, full interior design.

Solace is a home we took right back to the studs. We removed load-bearing walls and reframed the structure, spray-foamed the entire space and built a new washroom upstairs. Ceara at Juliette Interiors designed the interior and chose every finish, in cream, pale oak and pink-veined stone. The photos were taken in May 2026.

What we built

This was a complete gut. Every wall was opened down to the framing, which let us change the structure, not just the surfaces. Load-bearing walls came out, and we reframed.

With the framing bare, we spray-foamed the whole space. Insulation is easiest to do well when nothing is in the way, and on a gut job every wall, ceiling and cavity is open at once. Upstairs, we added a new washroom.

The living room's fireplace wall: a curved plaster face over a cabinet that runs the full width.

The design

Ceara's design repeats one idea: curves. The fireplace wall bows out in plaster, the island has a rounded end, the cabinet wall by the fridge rounds off at the corner, and arched openings lead to the stair and the dining room. The mirrors in the bathrooms are ovals in brass. A herringbone floor runs through the kitchen, the living room and the dining room.

The kitchen

The island is fluted pale oak with a rounded end and a top in pink, grey and cream veined stone. The same stone runs up the wall behind the counter as the backsplash. The sink is in the island, facing white wall ovens and cream slab cabinets, and the fridge sits in a cabinet wall with a rounded corner beside an arched doorway. Behind the island, an oak-lined cabinet holds the coffee machine.

The living and dining rooms

The fireplace wall is the centre of the living room. A linear fireplace and a TV sit in a curved plaster face, over a long low cabinet that runs the full width of the wall. On each side, a picture-frame panel holds a round sconce. Next to it, an arched opening leads to an oak stair.

The dining room is through a wide arch, with blush shell pendants over the table and another arched doorway at the far side.

The bathrooms

One bathroom has a vessel sink on an oak vanity, an oval brass mirror and a tub behind a curved glass screen, tiled in thin vertical tile with glass corner shelves. In another, wood panelling wraps the vanity wall and carries on across the ceiling, with an oval brass mirror, two globe sconces and brushed gold taps, in a room with pink walls. Elsewhere, a dressing table is built into a wall of oak wardrobes.
