# Planning a Bathroom Renovation in Vaughan

By Jarvis Contracting. Published 2026-10-03, updated 2026-10-09.

Plan a bathroom around the layout, water management and access for the work before choosing the tile. For a Vaughan home, start with the existing room, the proposed plumbing changes and the local approval requirements. A clear scope makes quotes much easier to compare.

## Keep the layout or move the fixtures?

Keeping the toilet, vanity and shower in the same positions can simplify the work, but it does not answer every question about the room. Check ventilation, storage, lighting and the condition of the surfaces behind the finishes.

If fixtures move, ask how drains and supply lines will reach their new positions and which ceilings or walls outside the bathroom may need to open. On an upper floor, that can affect the room below.

## Make water management part of the specification

Ask the contractor to identify the proposed shower assembly, drainage, waterproofing and how changes in surface level will be handled. A tile sample does not describe that assembly. Record who supplies the system and how the installation is documented before the tile goes on.

For approvals, use the [City of Vaughan](https://www.vaughan.ca/) building department as the starting point. Explain the planned plumbing, ventilation and structural work. The need for an approval depends on the work, not on whether the finish is described as cosmetic.

## Look closely at real room layouts

The [Moore Park photo essay](https://www.jarviscontracting.ca/projects/moore-park) shows a double vanity, hanging mirrors, a half wall and a glass shower. [West Lynde](https://www.jarviscontracting.ca/projects/west-lynde) offers a different palette, including its emerald-tiled shower. These are design references from the Jarvis portfolio; neither is presented as a verified Vaughan project.

When collecting inspiration, identify the feature you need: a place to set toiletries, accessible towel storage, a shower bench or two people using the vanity at once. That is a stronger brief than a list of colours alone.

## Plan life around the work

Decide which bathroom will remain available, where materials will be stored and how the work route through the house will be protected. Confirm who orders fixtures and what happens if a product arrives damaged.

Ask for a scope that separates demolition, repairs, rough work, waterproofing, finishes and fixtures. Our [bathroom service](https://www.jarviscontracting.ca/bathroom-renovations) and [pricing overview](https://www.jarviscontracting.ca/pricing) help prepare that conversation. The final design and estimate should respond to the actual house.

## Questions

### Is a bathroom quote comparable if it only lists fixtures and tile?

Not reliably. It should also explain demolition, preparation, plumbing and electrical work, waterproofing, installation, disposal and exclusions. Compare those items before comparing the totals.
